Local Government Boundary Commission for England - Electoral Review of Gateshead Council, Part Two (Warding Arrangements) pdf icon PDF 4 MB

Minutes:

Consideration was given to the Council’s draft submission to the Local

Government Boundary Commission for England on Part Two of its review of Gateshead Council (Warding Pattern).

 

 

 

Councillor R Beadle moved the following amendment to the recommendations in

the report:

 

 

 

In recommendation ii, add “and Leader of the Opposition” after “Leader of the

Council”.

 

Add new recommendation iii:

with the following changes and resultant changes to estimates:

 

 

 

a)

Removing transfer of Saltwell Road, Ventnor Gardens and Ventnor Crescent from Saltwell to Low Fell ward (pp17-18);

 

 

b)

Removing transfer of Northside from Lamesley to Birtley South ward, and Maple Avenue from Birtley to Lamesley (pp24-25);

 

 

c)

Transferring the Central Nursery site from Dunston Hill and Whickham East ward to Lobley Hill and Bensham (pp24-25);

 

 

d)

Renaming Lamesley Ward to Birtley North and Lamesley Ward (p2 and 24);

 

 

e)

Renaming Lobley Hill and Bensham ward to Lobley Hill and Team Valley (pp14-15);

 

 

f)

Renaming Pelaw and Heworth ward to Pelaw, Heworth and Bill Quay (p22).

 

 

On the amendment being put it was defeated.

 

 

 

The original recommendations were put as the substantive motion.

 

 

 

The original recommendations were duly carried.

 

 

 

COUNCIL RESOLVED -

(i)

That the recommendation of the draft submission in terms of the Council size remaining the same at 66 Councillors, across 22 wards, based on the new warding pattern, with three new ward names being proposed as set out in the report be approved.

 

 

 

 

(ii)

That the Chief Executive, following consultation
with the Leader of the Council, may make any amendments to the draft Submission she deems appropriate prior to it being filed with the Commission on 30 October 2023.
