I was proud to be first elected to Gateshead Council in May 2010, following the retirement, through ill-health of Councillor David Bollands, and equally proud to be have been re-elected once more in 2016.
I am married, with two daughters, and I've lived in Gateshead now for over 40 years watching - and loving - the transformation of the borough into the vibrant, energetic, forward-looking town we see today. But 'town' is hardly the word for such an innovative borough, peopled by such wonderful, wise-cracking, hard-living, fun-loving characters and one of my ambitions is to see Gateshead become a city - the status the residents deserve.
Prior to my election as a councillor, I worked for the local Member of Parliament, running his constituency office, so I've had many years of trying to help people resolve all sorts of problems and concerns.
We're living in very challenging times, having to find new ways of maintaining services and facilities to the community, as central government seeks to remove all financial support to local councils, but I am determined to do everything in my power to ensure that the people of Dunston and Teams get the resources that we to improve and regenerate out ward.
