Report of the Strategic Director, Economy, Innovation and Growth

Minutes:

The Committee received a report seeking approval to update and amend the General Safety Certificate (No. 25c) or the Gateshead International Stadium.

 

The Committee were advised on the background and management changes that have taken place at Gateshead International Stadium since November 2019.

 

The Committee were informed of the results on the Annual Inspection Report which recommends the new safe capacity is 8156 (maximum possible seating capacity is 11939).

 

The Committee also received an update on the East Terrace Canopy following on from damage sustained in the storms of 2019, the safe capacity has been assessed and reduced from 4044 to 2426. The Committee will receive a further update on the future of the East Terrace Canopy once a longer term solution has been assessed and agreed by the Council.

 

The Committee were advised of general updates, pertaining to floodlight improvements and the options appraisal for the Stadium; which will consider the future operating model for the Stadium.

 

As part of the options appraisal, the management and maintenance of the Gateshead International Stadium General Safety Certificate and any future implication will be considered and reported to Committee at a later date.

 

RESOLVED -

That the information be noted

The Committee approved the amendments to Gateshead International Stadium General Safety certificate to reflect the revised safe capacity assessment as set out in the report.
