I was elected to the Council in May 2021. I have lived in Harlow Green for over 30 years. I am active in the community; I try to include all parts of the ward when I’m out walking and I’m always happy to stop for a chat if residents have any issues they want to raise.
Becoming a Councillor interested me because I have always liked being involved with people and helping them work together to create good communities. My working life has been both in public and private sector and my role as a UNISON steward has helped me to tackle issues that affect peoples lives.
I attend Kibblesworth Millennium Centre most Monday mornings to keep up to date with issues in the village, I join the committee meetings and events at Eighton Banks Village Hall, and the Mount. I also very much enjoy my role as a school governor at Birtley East primary school.
I am Vice Chair of the Planning and Development Committee, a member of Corporate Resources Overview and Scrutiny Committee and serve on the Personnel Appeals Committee. I am also a member of the Gateshead Bus Board.
As a Councillor I will represent residents' interests to the best of my ability and always do my best to make sure that Gateshead continues to be an excellent place to live for all residents. It hasn’t always been easy with cuts over the years and I am very appreciative of our volunteer groups who do really make a difference in the ward.
