Additional Information

I have lived in Gateshead since the age of 6 and still reside in Gateshead with my family.

I have been an active member of the Labour Party since the age of 16 and have actively campaigned in local and general elections during that time.

Since leaving full time education at 16, I worked in local government for 10 years whilst continuing to study part time.

I have always been a member of a trade union, I am currently a member of UNITE.

I am a Business Graduate with a BA (Hons) in Leadership, Management and Organisation, and I am currently pursuing an MBA Postgraduate Degree.

I currently work full time in Higher Education at Newcastle University.

I became a local councillor when I was elected to represent the Pelaw & Heworth Ward in May 2011. I served on the Governing Body of Roman Road Primary School for 8 years as an LEA Appointed Governor from 1994-2003. I also served on the School Governing Body of Bill Quay Primary School for 3 years from 2012-2015

I regularly attend meetings at McErlane Square and Wood Green Sheltered Accommodation within the ward, and we work closely with our local libraries, and local community farm, Bill Quay Farm.

I am on the Board of Trustees at Edberts House Community Project, as well as aThe Sight Service, Pelaw.  I am also a member of APSE (the Association of Public Service Excellence).

I enjoy performing a significant amount of voluntary work within the ward  (in the rare pockets of spare time between juggling two jobs and being a parent);  this includes working in the community gardens, litter picking, organising charitable fundraising events and writing grant applications to seek funding for charitable community facilities.  I also manage and maintain a vibrant news page for the ward to share our work and publicise community events by use of social media.

As your representative on the Council, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time if you have a problem or query regarding any issue within the ward or within the Borough.
