The Committee appointed Councillor Hall as the Chair of the South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership Joint Executive Committee.

RESOLVED

       i.          Councillor Hall to assume the role of Chair of the Committee.

The Committee appointed Councillor Gibson and Councillor Lenoard as the Vice Chairs of the South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership Joint Executive Committee.

RESOLVED

       i.          Councillor Gibson to assume the role of Vice Chair of the Committee.

      ii.          Councillor Lenoard to assume the role of Vice Chair of the Committee.

The minutes of the meeting held on 8 March 2024 were agreed as an accurate record with no matters arising.

The Contracts Update advised the Joint Executive Committee of the latest position regarding the Residual Waste Treatment Contract, all other ancillary waste joint contracts and activities managed by the South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership (STWWMP).

The following areas of the report were highlighted to the Committee:

·        The Residual Waste Treatment Contract (RWTC) was fully operational for the month of April with the exception of planned service of a turbine in Poland.

·        The 10 year anniversary events of the STWWMP have been rescheduled for October in light of the general election.

·        An update on community education was given in the report.

·        Tonnage numbers have fallen slightly to match pre pandemic levels.

       i.          The Committee noted the contents of the report.

The Committee received updates on the following areas:

·        Resource and Waste Strategy update

·        Deposit Return Scheme

·        Simpler Recycling

·        Emissions Trading Scheme – policy change

·        Ban on wet wipes containing plastics – policy change

·        Nissan EV batteries

·        Current Commodity Prices
